Custom Oil Portrait Commissions

I create custom oil portraits from high-quality photographic references, with each painting individually created to capture the character and likeness of the subject.

All paintings are supplied unframed. Prices depend mainly on the size of the canvas, and custom sizes are available on request.

Prices

To give you an idea of the range, some of the sizes I work with most frequently are:

  • 30 × 30 cm — €250
  • 40 × 50 cm — €350
  • 70 × 100 cm — €550

These are examples of my standard sizes, but I’m happy to work with other dimensions if you have something specific in mind.

Prices are for a single-subject portrait. A deposit may be required to confirm the commission.

How to Enquire

To get started, email a clear head-and-shoulders photograph to palcik4@gmail.com, along with:

  • Your preferred canvas size
  • Your approximate timeframe
  • Any other details you would like me to know

For the best results, the photograph should have:

  • Good, natural-looking light with clear facial shadows
  • A neutral or uncluttered background
  • The eyes clearly visible (if applicable)
  • A clear image of at least 1 MB

The photograph doesn’t need to be formal — smiling is very welcome. A relaxed 3/4 view can work particularly well, although looking directly at the camera is also perfectly fine.

Take your time choosing the photograph. The reference image plays an important part in creating a natural and convincing portrait, so feel free to look through my paintings for inspiration.

If you’re unsure whether your photograph is suitable, I can arrange a short video call to help you choose or take the right reference image.

I’ll reply within a few days to discuss availability, timeframe and delivery options.

Please note that commissions are scheduled alongside existing bookings, so waiting times can sometimes extend to several months.

Delivery & Collection

Delivery is not included in the painting price and is arranged separately.

Shipping costs depend on the destination, parcel size and delivery service. Tracked delivery is recommended for original artwork.

Because oil paint needs time to dry fully, paintings will only be shipped once they are ready for safe transport. Drying times can vary depending on the painting and environmental conditions.

You can also:

  • Arrange personal delivery within County Dublin and surrounding counties for an additional fee
  • Collect your finished painting in person in Dublin

If a painting is collected or hand-delivered while it is still drying, it may need to be left untouched for several days or weeks. I’ll provide any necessary care instructions.

Once the artwork has been accepted and paid for in full, responsibility for its safe handling and storage passes to the client.

I also offer a referral discount to clients who recommend my portrait services to friends or family.

A portrait is a personal piece of artwork, and I believe the process should be just as enjoyable as the finished painting. I look forward to hearing your ideas and creating something that you’ll be happy to keep and enjoy for many years to come.
